Inspiration

This project is based on an image of a K.O.'d Jagdpanzer IV L/70 (A), I found in the book "Panzerwrecks 6".  During my web research for more info, I ran across these two images of the same tank and scene.

Getting Started

It all started with this old DML kit: which I found buried in the shelves at a local hobby shop. Figured it would be a quick, simple and unique model to build.
......and of course  there were some  aftermarket parts.

However upon opening the box it was immediately apparent that the molding quality, detail and accuracy were not anywhere near that of the current DML kits. I realized immediately that most of the parts from the original kit were going to need to be scrapped and replaced with newer generation parts . The easiest route at the time without expending too much additional cash was to pull a new 'Pz. IV Ausf. G' kit out of my stash. This kit was going to be the donor for all the lower hull parts.

After digging through this new kit, I noticed that it did not have the correct drive sprocket housing,  as well as some other running gear parts, so once again back into the closet for an old 'Tamiya Pz. IV Ausf. J' kit, to cannibalize parts from.

After some more digging and fussing through the kits , I realized that  none of the main suspension components were going to me exactly what I needed,  not only style and detail wise, but also because the road wheel assemblies were  not adjustable (which I would need for the scene). I decided I was going to need the Pz. IV  wheels and suspension kit from Tristar (kit # 35014) to supply the needed parts, unfortunately the kit seemed sold out across the web and ebay, so I settled for using parts from the other Tristar Pz. IV suspension set (kit #35042) which I happened to have in one of my cabinets.

At this point I thought I was set and ready to go, but once I got into the build I realized that I we still not happy with the detailing of the superstructure, so  I went and purchase the DML Jadpanzer IV L/70 (V) kit, to scrounge yet more parts from.

I was really starting to question my sanity  regarding this undertaking..
